Privatisation and Commercialisation
The project was to support NTAL in its fight against commercialization of education. The project began with equipping NTAL with information on our government's plan to privatize the elementary session of our public school system. Another support was the release of a research report conducted by EI and its partners.
Following the launch of the research report, we were empowered to create awareness on the danger of this menace to rally support of our colleagues in counties targeted by the Government of Liberia for the pilot phase of this privatization campaign. To also engage other education stakeholders to support NTAL in this endeavor.
The goal of this project was to discourage the Government of Liberia from pursuing the privatization drive that had been introduced by the then Minister of Education and Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. This was to have the Government of Liberia provide adequate support to public education and ensure assess to education for all irrespective of financial status.
Hosting of meetings with teachers and education workers; provision of printed campaign materials; radio talk shows and engagement with officials of government officials, particularly members of parliament.
There was message aware on commercialization which led to public interest. It also resulted into the summering of the Education Minister by Members of Parliament for questioning.
